At the rear of an imposing country house in the heart of Mid Sussex, two modern houses, The Chimneys and The Forge, both designed by BAL, were granted planning permission. Individually orientated to take advantage of the stunning views across to Chailey Common, the contemporary houses not only feature stunning double height rooms, but the design and construction have been carefully tailored to reduce energy consumption and carbon footprint. Notwithstanding the open plan living areas with large glazed walls to take advantage of the views to the surrounding countryside, the design blends in with both the existing house and the vernacular architectural style of the South Downs.
